turning living rooms into offices and restaurants into conference rooms. despite the advantages associated with wi-fi, it also brings along certain disadvantages, a key one being data security. since rf signals aren’t blocked by walls in wi-fi, additional security techniques are needed for ensuring secure data transfer. this involves everything from knowing how a vpn can help to how to hide your ip address and even more. li-fi uses leds (light emitting diodes) instead of traditional wireless transmitters to communicate between devices and networks. using the same set up like wi-fi networks, a li-fi transmitter is placed. since walls block light in li-fi, it facilitates more secure data transfer . considering the huge amount of sensitive data regularly shared through the networks and the increasing threat of cyberattackers, li-fi is something that can’t be ignored. the process unlike wi-fi that uses radio waves to transmit data, li-fi uses light. it modulates the intensity of light sources faster than human capacities. any illuminated area is capable of receiving that signal, but the transmission is blocked by objects like walls. it’s a two-way connection because an uplink and a downlink are provided on the receiver. the ubiquitous presence of led lights has made li-fi an even more viable alternative to the traditional wi-fi. since the lights can be controlled more effectively, it has given the technology a more economical and practical prospect. led lights powered with signal processing technology are capable of both data transmission and illumination. the benefits the benefits of li-fi technology include unlocking the huge secure and license-free electromagnetic spectrum of visible and infrared light regions. from a security viewpoint, the signal can’t pass through opaque and solid structures. this means you don’t need to worry anymore about leaking of transmission into public spaces or other buildings, blocking access to unwanted users. also, the limited illumination will allow environments to be more precisely partitioned. specific access point can be assigned to users that can be monitored closely. every iot device can be tracked and localized as it moves between the access points, imposing an additional layer of security. another factor that encourages the shift from wi-fi to li-fi in the technology realm is the latter’s speed of 1 gbps, which is 100 times faster than traditional wi-fi speeds. by helping in incredibly secure and faster data exchange at a significantly lower power level than wi-fi, li-fi is surely where the future of wireless communication is headed to. updated: french lightning industry light enables us to see, which in turn lets us understand and respond to the elements surrounding us. though there’s natural light, depending solely on it wouldn’t be feasible as it would make us spend most of our time in the dark. this led to the experimentation and invention of different lights. in fact, the history of lighting shows how we have learned and mastered the technical aspect the production of light and delivering it to the streets, household and commercial establishments. let us take a closer look at how the french lighting industry evolved. 18th century the french chemist – antoine lavoisier did a pioneering job by overthrowing the phlogiston theory (that stated combustion was accompanied by the loss of phlogiston) by displaying the role of oxygen in combustion. at the age of 22, lavoisier invented a new method of urban street lighting for paris and received a prize from the french academy of science as a nod to his invention that made parisian street lighting far superior to what was prevalent those days. 19th century unlike medieval candles, the production of superior quality candles was made possible during this century, thanks to chemist michel chevruel, who facilitated the production of stearine, a derivative of tallow. this was also the era when argand-type lamps that came into existence during the 18th century were worked upon by bernard guillaume carcel – the french watchmaker. in 1800, he used his carcel lamps with clockwork mechanism to tide over the disadvantages of the argand-type lamps. this century saw the rise of gas lighting until electric arc and incandescent lighting came into existence. in 1801, french experimentalist phillipe lebon used gas lights to illuminate his garden and house, and was busy considering how the entire city of paris could be illuminated. it was much later in 1820 when gas street lighting was adopted by the city of paris. in 1841, arc-lighting found its way into paris where it was used as experimental public lighting. later in 1876, the city used the yablochkov candle (invented by pavel nikolayevich yablochkov – the russian electrical engineer) for public street lighting that produced a radiant, albeit harsh light. yablochkov candle was considered the first practical carbon arc lamp. important work in the domain of lighting happened at other places in the world, which would affect how homes, streets and other places would be lit up in the future. from edison’s incandescent lamps (1881) and general electric company’s high-pressure mercury discharge lamps (1932) to fluorescent lamps produced by edmund germer (together with his german coworkers) in the late 1920s and ge’s metal-halide lamps in 1962, this was an important phase for the world of lighting. 20 th century georges claude displayed neon lighting in 1910 at the paris motor show. but the most important discovery during this period was the french physicist georges destriau. in 1936, he discovered the emission of light from zinc sulfide (called the “electroluminescence” effect). led lighting 1962 marks the commencement of industrially produced led lights when nick holonyak of usa made the first red luminescence diode and put it up on the lighting market. during the 1970s, leds in orange, green and yellow were made with the newly developed semiconductor materials. shuji nakamura brought another breakthrough in 1993 by creating the first blue led. he also developed a very efficient green led light and the white led. the led lights were launched in the market 2 years later in 1995. like everywhere else in the world, led lights are much sought after in france as well since they are more environment-friendly and cost-effective than incandescent bulbs. experts believe the future to be dominated by dynamic, integrated led lighting as well as smart, connected leds (that can sense natural light and turn on/off rapidly). updated: new collection leave a comment get inspired by our new collection updated: designing and engineering lighting for the iot leave a comment we are proud to be a part of band aurora.
